The Whitelist Dispute was a political conflict between the SMP Government and Non-Players of the SMP that began on December 29th, 2021 and ended when the SMP closed. It was the first major conflict in the SMP.
On December 27th, the Provisional Government passed a measure within the Opening Day Act that requires Non-Players to request for their whitelisting. In order to be whitelisted, requests had to be reviewed and approved by at least 4-of-the-5 members.
On December 28th, the SMP was announced and Non-Players could request for their whitelisting. Three Non-Players requested their whitelisting. Two out of the three were approved.
On December 29th, hockeyben42 sent a request. The Provisional members reviewed the request and came to the consensus to add hockeyben42 at a later date. In other words, his request was denied.
Many Non-Players requested after opening day were constantly asking and complaining about whitelisting and when it was going to happen. Some derogatory statements were made, for example, "Whitelist me or you hate black people."
Pressured, the 1st Judicial Congress, on its first meeting, passes a resolution, known as the 1st Whitelisting Act, which approved two more requests. In this first meeting, the quorum was not met, so, one of the request denials was repealed in a revote with the required quorum (R. 2).
Later, on January 19th, hockeyben42 was banned from the Asian SMP Court Discord server after spamming "Welcome Stickers" welcoming himself. The ban was revoked a couple of days later. About a week later on January 26th, hockeyben42 complained about not being whitelisted once again. The next day after a verbal altercation with a government leader, hockeyben42 was banned from the Asian SMP Court Discord indefinitely.
As of May 20th, 2022, the following players who requested whitelisting have been denied: hockeyben42, SheepSwindler, and AsianNickN.
The whitelisting system established in the 3rd SMP Constitution may have been a contributing factor to why player activity declined.
Future SMPs may become more relaxed about whitelisting players. However, certain players may still be discussed based on their previous history, such as bans and actions.
