Asian SMP Wiki - March Election

The March Elections were held on March 5th, 2022, and was the second presidential election of the 3rd Asian SMP. In the elections, incumbent President BBLB_YT is running for re-election but was challenged by his Secretary RiceMaster_. The presidential election ended in a tie. Resulting in the 2nd Judicial Congress selecting a final winner. RiceMaster_ defeated incumbent President BBLB_YT and was elected as the second President, as well as the third members of the Judicial Congress, were elected.

As of March 5th, formal parties or factions haven't formed; making the next Jury and President non-partisan.

RiceMaster_ will be inaugurated on March 12th, 2022 along with the 3rd Judicial Congress.

BBLB_YT

President BBLB_YT reaffirmed his run for re-election on February 3rd, 2022. In a press release on February 26th, featuring two questions "If re-elected, what will the BBLB_YT Administration continue/bring new to the SMP?" and "Why should players re-elect you?". BBLB_YT responded by saying he'll be doing, "Same things that have happened will continue. Might push to add 1-2 new plugins too."

Likely, BBLB_YT was frightened by the length at which his rival responded to the questions.

On March 4th, BBLB_YT decided to keep his Vice-Presidency vacant.

RiceMaster_

Secretary RiceMaster_ launched his bid for the presidency on February 19th, 2022 after previously declining to run. In the same press release on February 26th that featured BBLB_YT, featuring two questions for RiceMaster_ also. "If elected, what will a RiceMaster Administration bring to the SMP?" and "Why should players elect you instead of BBLB_YT?". RiceMaster_ responded, "If I were to become president and create a RiceMaster Administration, it could bring a lot to the SMP to improve the quality and player experience. ...bring financial aid to new or struggling players and help expand spawn and or new areas for the SMP economy. ...find new ways to increase SMP activity, and or come up with new plans, bills, and events." He added, that he would keep his "ears open and have a public booth for the players to express and notify me of current struggles, concerns, and complaints that I could possibly bring light to and help." "I hope players will consider to have me as President..." Lastly, he said.

On March 4th, RiceMaster_ declared that his Vice-President would be the individual that comes in 2nd place in the election.

Contingent election

At 7:00 PM, March 5th, both President BBLB_YT and Secretary RiceMaster_ received 3 votes. A tie. Both candidates agreed to send the matter to the 2nd Judicial Congress, to select the winner. After 10 minutes of debate for each side, 2 Jours voted for BBLB_YT, and 2 voted for RiceMaster_. One Jour, GodspeedAssassin, was absent, and this emergency session required all Jours to vote. While the constitution doesn't formally grant legality, Governor Pickyman broke the tie in favor of RiceMaster_. RiceMaster_ was selected as the winner of the presidential election. The reason Governor Pickyman sided with RiceMaster_ was that "...both of the disputed candidates will have a role in the executive branch..."; since RiceMaster_ chose whoever comes in second place will become his Vice-President (aka BBLB_YT).

Later on March 5th, absent Jour GodspeedAssassin submitted his consideration vote. He voted in favor of RiceMaster_. Excluding the Governor's vote, RiceMaster_ would have still been selected.

All 5 voting seats in the Judicial Congress were up for election; 3 seats are necessary for a majority. The winner of each seat will serve a 35-day term and will be up for election again in the April 9th elections.

Incumbents picked up 4 seats as they were re-elected for a third term. But Vastator25 said "No [by the way]" to accepting his third term. Since he gave up his seat, the next highest winner, Mikayla04 was elected instead.

New Jours picked up 2 seats. Either filling in for soon-to-be President RiceMaster_ or gained seat because incumbent gave up seat.

The 3rd Judicial Congress will be inaugurated at 12 PM on March 5th, 2022.

Presidential

According to a poll that was finalized on January 29th, 75% approved of President BBLB_YT, with 25% undecided.

In another poll that was released on February 27th, 62.5% approved of President BBLB_YT and 12.5% disapprove; with 25% undecided.

On March 1st, a final poll was released with the question, "As of now, who will you vote for President?". Of the participating voters, 55.5% said they will vote for BBLB_YT and 44.5% said they will vote for RiceMaster_.

Judicial Congress

After the ending poll of the 1st Judicial Congress, 100% of the participating voters approved of the 1st Judicial Congress.

On March 1st, the final poll for the 2nd Judicial Congress was released. Of the participating voters, 75% approve while 12.5% disapprove with 12.5% undecided.

Predictions/Projections

Using the current polling information, these are our predictions for the March 5th election. If poll numbers are in favor of at least 60 percentage points, they are predicted of a likely win. If 70 percentage points, they are predicted very likely to win. If the poll numbers are in favor of is 59-to 41 percentage points, it is a toss-up.

UPDATE: As of 6:50 PM, BBLB_YT has received 3 votes and RiceMaster_ has received 3 votes. They are slipt. It's likely that the Judicial Congress will select a winner.

Based on the released March 1st poll asking voters who they would vote for President, Pres. BBLB_YT led with 1 vote. It's likely to be a narrow election.

As of February 27th, our prediction for which of the two candidates will win has a slight tilt towards RiceMaster_. The opinion poll regarding the favorability of President BBLB_YT showed a 12.5% drop in approval from the previous poll, which showed 75% approval.

On February 21st, our prediction for which of the two candidates will win was a toss-up and will be re-evaluated after the February 27th poll. Previously, we predicted that President BBLB_YT would be re-elected nearly or unanimously as he was unopposed for the Presidency.
